Winter may be the off season for baseball fans, yet not for teachers! RPDC’s annual Winter Warm Up is designed for new and seasoned teachers who desire to re-energize professional practices to stay in the ballgame (a.k.a classroom)! Research by John Hattie suggests that what works best for students is what works best for teachers; evidence supports the largest effect on student learning occurs “when teachers become learners of their own teaching, and when students become their own teachers.
Participants will use Hattie’s book, Visible Learning for Teachers, as they explore formative and summative student assessment strategies, re-invent “tried and true” instructional approaches, re-purpose popular web-based teacher resource sites (e.g. edhelper.com, superteacher.com) as springboards for interactive learning, fine tune classroom management interventions, and re-tool processes preparing and starting a lesson for optimal student engagement.
Participants will receive a copy of John Hattie’s book, Visible Learning for Teachers. In addition, teachers can receive a certification of completion to fulfill their Beginning Teacher Assistance (BTA) requirement for Missouri Career Continuous certification upgrade.
